  • Elongated body shape head narrower than body.
  • Reddish–brown in colour.

Lifecycle

  • Dog tick are a 3–host tick; ticks must change host between the 3 stages of growth (larva, nymph and adult).
  • They require only three blood meals to complete development; one blood meal at each growth phase.

Habits

  • Dog ticks are found on dogs, in dog kennels and dog houses, and occasionally on wildlife, but are rarely found on humans.
  • The most common places ticks attach themselves on dogs are areas the animal is unable to groom.
  • In temperate regions, several generations of ticks can be expected per year.
