  • Adult Anopheles mosquitoes are pale with dark marks on its wings and rests at a 45 degree angle to the surface.
  • Eggs are about 1mm in length and have floats on the sides.
  • Larvae rest parallel to the surface of water

Lifecycle

  • Anopheles mosquitoes undergo complete metamorphosis – egg, larvae, pupae and adult
  • Egg to adult development takes 6 – 10 days

Habits

  • Females can lay 50 – 150 eggs with a single blood meal.
  • Biting times – bite at night and rest indoor and outdoor (depends on species)
  • Prefer darker colours
  • Main vector of Malaria.
  • Habitat preferences – prefer clean and unpolluted water.
